New York Yankees have a lot of gaps to fill once the lockout is lifted. Out of all, one position that they desperately need to fill is that of the shortstop.

While Carlos Correa might be on their priority list for the same, one wouldn’t advise them to rely on him alone in free agency. Interestingly, another top shortstop, Trevor Story, was expected to be their second option; however, they aren’t the front runners to sign him anymore.

New York Yankees absent from Trevor Story race

New York Yankees missed out on the chance to secure Corey Seager in free agency before the lockout. Reports state the missed opportunity was a result of them aiming for Carlos Correa, the hottest prospect in free agency. With many teams having Correa on their radar, the Yankees will face intense competition to sign him; hence Trevor Story is the next best option for them.

Yankees have already lost some top agents to other teams before the lockout, and just like the Yankees front office had claimed earlier, they should be open to all the possibilities post-lockout, if they want to create a strong team for the 2022 season.

Can Yankees land Carlos Correa?

One can’t deny the huge possibility of the Yankees and Correa signing a deal post-lockout. Yankees are the richest MLB franchise and can deliver a $300 million above deal to Carlos’ table, which he is seeking. And, if they aren’t the frontrunners in the Trevor Story race, Yankees will have to aggressively approach Carlos, leaving no chance of losing him.

However, other teams are also not going to just sit and watch. Do you think Yankees should also keep Trevor Story on the same priority list as Carlos or should they back out from one race and fight hard in the other?
