“You Break Your Ankle, You’re Done”- Former MLB Star Slams Criticism on Lockout Union Wage Demands

Fans are beginning to get restless with the MLB lockout still in play. Some fans have also been blaming the players for causing the delay because of their money issues, despite earning millions.

Former MLB player, Adam Jones, opened up on the reality of baseball players’ earnings. Notably, not every other player receives a hefty paycheck, as is assumed.

Adam Jones points out the harsh reality of MLB finances

The MLB lockout was the courtesy of the expiration of CBA between MLB and the Players Association. For the first time in 26 years, the lockout was implemented, and understandably, fans were not happy. Since its implementation, fans have been upfront and open about their views, taking to the internet to express the same.

Some fans have attacked baseball players for the delay in lockout opening because of their financial demands. Notably, fans have compared MLB players with teachers, and how the teachers are underpaid, unlike baseball players, but yet, they don’t complain. On the Flippin’ Bats with Ben Verlander show, Ben asked Adam Jones (Former MLB player) to weigh in on the ongoing criticism against baseball players.

Adam said, “When it comes to money first off go to the minor leagues. The majority of the guys are making peanuts. You know with today’s being sent up and sent down…guys generally get maybe 60 to 75% of the minimum per year.”

”It’s the minor leagues that people need to look at. Stop looking at the major leagues. I’m looking at the Louis Vuitton, because I know a lot of people that played the major League for 3,4,5 years and ain’t got a dollar saved to their name, ” he further added.

Adam also opened up about the risky life of players

Being a baseball player comes with a fancy life, but also with a lot of uncertainty. Players are exposed to dangerous injuries on the field, some that can lead to the end of their careers as well.

“It’s not that easy, so I just think people need to understand that you know at the end of the day you throw one pitch and you’re done. You hitting one base wrong, you break your ankle, you’re done. Athletes are always one pitch one play one everything away from being done,” Adam said.
