Former Houston Astros shortstop, Carlos Correa, a current free agent in the market, has been in the news for his mammoth market value. Correa debuted in Major League in 2015 for the Astros and has been with them since. Now, after his contract with the Astros expired, he became a free agent in the market, with many MLB teams trying to match his asking price.

The Astros selected the 27-year-old Puerto Rican baseball shortstop in the 2012 MLB draft. As he made his major league debut for the Astros in 2015, he won the American League Rookie of the Year Award. Later in the 2017 season, he went on to win the World Series and was named an MLB All-Star. He also appeared in the World Baseball Classic and AL Player of the Month Award for May in 2017.

If reports are to be believed, then the Puerto Rican shortstop was demanding over $330 million for his new contract. As per MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, Correa’s position before the ongoing lockout was to get at least $330 million. If Correa manages to get his asking price, then the shortstop will break Corey Seager’s $325 million deal.

Carlos Correa’s performance in the 2021 season

Notably, Correa had one of the best MLB seasons in 2021 with the Astros. He won the Gold Glove and Platinum Glove Awards and was also named to his second All-Star Game. He has played an instrumental part in the Astros’ success in the past 5 years.
