Tigers don’t want to spend millions on Carlos Correa

In a fresh update, the Tigers-Correa relationship might be over before it could even start. Speculations were on the rise when Tigers manager A. J. Hinch and Correa were spotted on a breakfast date. However, turning bearer of bad news, MLB insider Jon Heyman, stated that the Tigers love Correa, but they want to spend their money efficiently on someone who would solve their multiple purposes.

Jon tweeted, “Tigers do love Carlos Correa but have heard from Tigers people who insist they will not spend $300M on any one player due to multiple needs. They are considering Javier Baez and Marcus Semien (and possibly Trevor Story though that’s unconfirmed), who won’t command that figure.”

Who are the other options for Detroit Tigers?

Former Colorado Rockies shortstop, Trevor Story, and Toronto Blue Jays’ Marcus Semien, while former New York Mets’ second baseman Javier Baez are on the potential list of future prospects. However, Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners are also interested in Baez.

In terms of Carlos, New York Yankees have shown a positive interest in the most expensive shortstop on the list. There were also rumors about Yankees planning to offer him a $300 million deal by December; an offer that would be tough for the Tigers to match up with. Hence, it was a smart decision by the Tigers to look out for less expensive agents, to optimize their team for the 2022 season.
