New York Yankees’ legendary player, Joe DiMaggio, was one of the best players in the sport’s history. Apart from his heroics on the field, Joe DiMaggio was also popular for his short-lived yet iconic love story with American actress Marilyn Monroe.

The couple were together for less than a year; however, their romance lived forever. In fact, Joe wanted to get back to Marilyn, but sadly, he lost her because of sickness.

Joe DiMaggio sent flowers to Marilyn’s grave regularly

In 1954, Joe DiMaggio and Monroe tied the knot, but in less than a year, they parted ways, citing personal reasons. However, DiMaggio never fell out of love, and in 1961, when Marilyn fell ill, he stood by her side. Notably, he was planning to re-marry her, but sadly, she left for her heavenly abode in 1962.

Heartbroken, Joe was inconsolable after her death and sought solace in an unusual ritual. Reports state, the Former Yankees star, sent flowers to Marlyn’s grave three times a week, without fail. He followed this until he passed away too in 1999.

DiMaggio’s last words were dedicated to his lady love

Even after her death, DiMaggio was not over Marilyn, as he was often heard saying, ”I love you, I love you,” over her grave. Notably, his last few words before his passing were something so saddening, yet heartbreakingly beautiful. Joe said, “I’ll finally get to see Marilyn again.”
