Max Scherzer’s pitching has always been a hurdle for the Mets. Hence, they eliminated that threat by getting him on board. The million-dollar deal Mets signed with Max will pay him a hefty amount, even by the hour.

An experienced pitcher, Max Scherzer, was, undeniably, one of the star players in the free agency. The Mets sealed a deal with him for $130 million for three years. According to ESPN, Max has the choice to opt-out of the contract after the second season, i.e. 2023.

Notably, the deal is going to pay a hefty amount to the three-time Cy Young Award winner. The contract signed makes Max the player with the highest average annual value of $43.33 million. He takes the top spot in place of the New York Yankees’ highest-paid player, Gerrit Cole, who had a $36 million average salary in his $324 million deal.

Further breaking down Max’s deal with Mets, he will be earning $58,000 At Bat, while he will get $235,000 per inning pitched. Shockingly, Mets will pay Scherzer $5000 per hour, and $82 per min.

With that deal, Max also became the oldest player in the history of Major League Baseball to secure a $100 million contract. Safe to say, the New York Mets have commendably strengthened their chances for the 2022 season.

Even before signing the whopping million deal with Max, the New York Mets were already on a spending spree, acquiring three top players in a single day. The Mets signed infielder Eduardo Escobar, and outfielders Starling Marte and Mark Canha for a total $124.5 million deal. Notably, the Mets spent the most on Starling Marte, $78 million.
