The 12th edition of FIBA 3X3 has been making stellar rounds among basketball enthusiasts. This fastest-growing sports category has garnered excitement through its Challengers and Masters categories proceeding through the year. 12 teams have battled through six months of the World Tour to near the edging finals in December. However, as the teams perform to keep up, the weekend’s Masters at Shanghai stood out to be a highlight for the week.

On the 15th of October, Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy and Liman Huishan went against each other for a thrilling match. While the Mongolian team’s performance efforts took them on a victory stroll, the rooster’s Canadian legend embraced the spotlight. Steve Sir, the legendary shooter, with his performance to the end, earned him the MVP title for the night. The shooter, who was interviewed after his win, had a warm response as he revealed his secret.

Basketball Masters MVP reveals his ‘secret sauce’

The 3X3 Shanghai Basketball Masters witnessed a historical match between Mongolia and Siberia on the 15th of October. Steve Sir, who joined the Mongolian team as player-coach last year, worked with the team to take home the team and individual win. In his final performance, Steve scored a total of 6 points for the team alongside two key assists, one rebound, and two highlight plays; these numbers earned Steve the MVP title for the night.

Steve, with his team of 4 earned their first FIBA 3X3 World Tour Masters title pulling 2 points ahead of the opponents. Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy is deemed as an underdog but over the weekend they played to dominate the grounds in Shanghai.

Underdogs walk their way to dominate

Entering the campaign, the Mongolian team had a good start to their week. In the knockout rounds, Ulaanbaatar emerged victorious against China’s Wuxi and the Madagascan team, Antananarivo. The team maintained their momentum as they headed to the finals.

Initially, the team was challenged by the opposing team’s sharpshooters, Zhang Ning and Stefan Kojic. Both teams held a strong hand over the other as they failed to surpass the 3 points placed on the scoreboard for most of the match. Eventually, Ulaanbaatar took a lead as Dulguun Enkhbat put up a score of 10 followed by Steve Sir’s 5 with an additional free throw victory. The night ended with a score of 21-19 in favor of the Mongolians.

Steve Sir finished third in player value with 37.1, second in scoring garnering 37, and second in two-pointers made with 12. In addition, Steve also won the shoot-out contest. The Masters will stay in China for the 21st while the Challengers will head to Doha on the 17th.
