In Santiago, Chile, the Pan American Games 2023 got underway with an incredible opening ceremony. The largest sporting event in the Americas is scheduled from October 20 to November 5, 2023. In a variety of sports, about 6800 competitors from 41 nations in the Americas will take part. As the games began, the USA showed its mettle. In beach volleyball discipline, the USA already secured two wins on the first day itself.

The USA has some strong athletes that represent the country in beach volleyball. On the men’s team, Logan Webber and Hagen Smith sought the win on the first day. And from the women’s team, Corinne Quiggle and Sarah Murphy glowed like stars. But the quest for winning started long ago. It all began in June. By qualifying in Manhattan Beach on June 13–14, both pairs guaranteed their spots in the Pan American Games. How did the USA fare on the first day, though?

The beach volleyball update from the first day

Beach Volleyball is scheduled from October 21 to October 27. Saturday marked the beginning of the first day. If you’re sad about missing the match, worry not! The official account for USA Volleyball’s beach department is there to cover everything. As the two teams fared well in the first round, the USA’s volleyball account took to Twitter to announce the good news. The account also shared pictures of the athletes. The caption detailed the score as well.

It read, “Day one of beach competition at the Pan American Games @santiago2023 is in the books, and the U.S. has two wins! Corinne Quiggle/Sarah Murphy def. 2-0, and Logan Webber/Hagen Smith def. 2-0. Back in action on Sunday! Let’s go! #santiago2023 @TeamUSA @Norceca_Info” There were two lovely pictures attached to the post. On one side, it was all about Logan Webber and Hagen Smith shaking hands. On the other hand, Corinne Quiggle and Sarah Murphy were seen in action. But who did the teams compete against?

Current standings and the upcoming game

It was exciting to watch the proceedings for the game. Each player gave it their best effort. However, in both categories, the American athletes made sure to give their best. USA’s Webber and Smith defeated the Bolivian team with a score of 2-0. Bolivia was represented by the likes of Calvo Luis and Salvatierra Ruddy. From the women’s team, Quiggle Corinne and Murphy Sarah Schermerhorn defeated the Peruvian team with a score of 2-0. Representing the Peruvian side were Gaona Arevalo Claudia Andrea and Allca Merino Lisbeth. Nevertheless, the American side is poised to advance in the coming matches.

The level of play increases as teams move-on to the next phase. The American pairs are scheduled to proceed to the third match in Category B. On October 22, both teams are scheduled to play the independent athletes. All we can hope for is that they stay safe and bring laurels to the country.
