By winning a gold at Beijing Winter Olympics, she became the oldest woman to win any medal in the Olympics for America and the oldest snowboarder of all time to win a medal at the Olympics. After the race, she said, “Racing with these girls definitely keeps me young, and they just keep getting younger.”

Well, she certainly proved the fact that age is just a number and everyone can’t think of anything but to be proud of her remarkable achievement.

Lindsey Jacobellis in her fifth Olympic

It was her fifth appearance in the Olympics, and prior to 2022, she just had an Olympic silver medal under her name from the 2006 Torino Games. In the semifinals, she had a very tough competition with the likes of Italian gold medalist Michela Moioli, but she managed to qualify for the finals.

Lindsey was not in the top favorites before the start of the Winter Olympics. She said, “I actually felt like I was already a winner that I just made it into finals. It’s been a long road for myself, ups and downs, injuries.”

A Great Career

Lindsey Jacobellis has led a two-decades-long snowboarding career, and she is one of the most talented snowboarders of all time. Her Olympic career might not display her potential, but she has won 10 X Games and 6 world championships. The 36-year-old is often criticized for her performance in the 2006 Torino Games where she couldn’t win the gold because of a silly mistake.

She lost her lead while performing a board grab just before the end of the race and had to settle for a silver medal rather than gold. Lindsey said, in an interview, “I’m sure we can go into everyone’s past 12 years ago and pick out something that they coulda, shoulda, woulda done,”

If that mistake was unforgettable for everyone, so will be this victory at Beijing Winter Olympics today. Lindsey Jacobellis will be remembered for a really long time and will be very tough for anyone to break her record.
