American Olympic champion, Nathan Chen, is the rising star for the country. And as he receives laurels and praises of the highest high, he continues to credit it all to his mother.

The 22-year-old American figure skater won the gold medal in the men’s figure skating short program at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. In a competition with the likes of the Japanese legend Yuzuru Hanyu, the American secured first place and made his country proud.

Nathan Chen dedicates his gold medal to his mother

After becoming the Olympic champion, Nathan posted a picture with his mother on his Instagram account, with the caption,Thanks mom ??couldn’t have done this without my family.” Now, when he finally met her after the Olympics, he also dedicated his gold medal to his mother.

Nathan hugged his mom and then placed his medal around her neck. Proud of her son’s achievement, his mother said, ?I basically know what he?s going to do, because most of the time I watched him practice a lot, so I know what?s going to happen.?

Notably, the gold medalist said,??There?s no way I would be able to make to where I am now without her support. She gave me structure. She made it fun for me.??

Chen, the new Olympic champion

The American skater was the favorite going into the Olympics, but so was the two-time Olympic champion, Yuzuru Hanyu of Japan. Both the players are considered to be the best figure skaters of modern times and are often seen as arch-rivals. However, Nathan has shown great admiration for the legend Hanyu on several occasions.

Despite the tough competition in the Beijing Olympics, Nathan Chen was beyond brilliant amongst the other players competing and thus he brought home the gold.
