What is ‘Quad axel’ or ‘4A’?

It is the toughest jump in figure skating. The jump is named after its creator, Norwegian figure skater Axel Paulsen. However, in the history of figure skating, the quad axel has never been performed to utmost perfection. The closest someone got to landing the trick was the 27-year-old legend, Yuzuru Hanyu, during the Japanese national championship in 2021.
