With three more days to go at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, Mikaela Shiffrin is yet to catch a break. The World Champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist lost all chances to win a solo medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics

Even though Mikaela had a solid downhill run after which she placed fifth, she skied out in her final run. Consequently, she received yet another DNF (Did Not Finish) in her second round of the women’s combined slalom.

Moreover, this was Shiffrin’s third DNF, with the first two coming from both her main events early in the Games. Now, Shiffrin has taken to social media to shoot down criticisms.

Mikaela Shiffrin lost her final chance at leaving Beijing with an individual medal. Suffice to say, the slopes at the Beijing Winter Olympics have not been kind to the 26-year-old this year.

Following her final DNF, Mikaela took to Instagram and Twitter to address harsh and vile criticisms against her. Shiffrin addressed all the vile words and insults that people on social media used against her.

While some stated that she “can’t perform as soon as she has competition,” others said that her “time is over, retire”. Moreover, many even called her “arrogant,” a “narcissist,” a “choker,” and even a “dumb blonde”.

Mikaela then noted down how many said that she “can’t even do the one thing she is supposed to do right”. In fact, there are even those who told her that she finally got what she deserved.

Thus, she came out with a strong footing to let her haters across the world know that she remains unfazed.

Mikaela’s strong words show her indomitable spirit

“Let the turkeys get you down,” Mikaela wrote, referring to all her haters as nothing but turkeys fed on self-pity and sadness. “Or get up again and again,” she stressed the choice one has in letting criticism weigh them down or rise above.

In a positive message of resilience, Mikaela tells everyone in the world to “get up because you can. Because you like what you do when it’s not infested with the people who have so much apparent hate for you”.

“Just get up. It’s not always easy,” Shiffrin wrote, “but it’s also not the end of the world to fail”. Then, she answered a simple question- “why do I keep coming back?”

For Mikaela Shiffrin, even though “it hurts more than it feels good lately,” she comes back repeatedly to the sports “because those first nine turns today were spectacular, really heaven.”

“That’s where I’m meant to be and I’m stubborn as s**t,” Shiffrin said. Thus, Mikaela is going to do what she does best- look forward and upward towards the next event.
