Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu left the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 without a medal. The 27-year-old legend had been the consecutive gold medalist for two Winter Olympics in 2014 and 2018.

However, he failed to get a podium finish at the 2022 Winter Olympics, owing to two falls in his free skate routine. Thus, after Hanyu didn’t win in his events, there were questions regarding his participation in the Olympics.

Moreover, there is also a lack of clarity regarding his participation in the World Championships in March 2022. As it turns out, Hanyu himself is not sure about them either.

Hanyu, who won the World Championships twice, in 2014 and 2017, is “yet to take a clear stand upon” his future. After the exhibition gala, when asked about what the future holds for him, Hanyu responded ambiguously. “I will take everything into consideration in my decision about the Worlds (Championships),” he stated.

Right now, Yuzuru Hanyu has a singular goal in mind. He will be taking a break in order “to give the ankle a proper rest”. The two-time Olympic gold medalist had injured his foot in his attempts to master the quadruple axel jump. In fact, he had intended to successfully land the 4A at the 2022 Olympics- an unprecedented feat that remains that way.

He also stated that he isn’t too keen on preparing for another major event just yet. “To think that the daily grind will soon start all over again makes me sad,” Hanyu shared.

Hanyu expressed that he has to “think deeply on lots of things” after his 2022 Olympic defeat. Thus, going forward, he “will be trying (his) best to be as positive as (he) can”. “I’m happy with the present,” Yuzuru shared, even if he didn’t manage to get the reward he aimed for.
