Olympian Mother Becomes the Official Team USA Flag Bearer for Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 Closing Ceremony

Holding your country’s flag is the highest honor for any athlete. There’s no similar feeling to parading with your team, waving your national flag in a prestigious event such as Olympics. The vibe of the Olympics is unlike any other national or international competition, and it’s this reason that makes flag bearing even more special for the athletes.

In the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, curler John Shuster and skater Brittany Bowe were the flag bearers for team USA. Brittany was the replacement for bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor, who was tested positive prior to the opening ceremony at Beijing. However, Elana Meyers has been given another opportunity to hold the American flag at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

The 37-year-old bobsledder is thrilled about being chosen as the American flag bearer for the closing ceremony on Sunday. Elana said, “That’s an incredible honor. It’s humbling and overwhelming. To have that opportunity. So, I can’t wait to wave the flag but tonight I am gonna rest up and focus on tomorrow.”

The four-time Olympian has won a silver medal in the monobob event at Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 and she’ll be looking forward to parade with the national flag and a silver medal around her neck.

Elana Meyers Taylor Olympic career

She has represented USA in four Olympics and has made her country proud on many occasions. Apart from winning a silver medal at Beijing, her Olympic achievements include silver medals at the 2014 and 2018 Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. After winning second place in monobob event, Elana wrote on her Instagram handle, “No words … only gratitude.” 

The 37-year-old is feeling honored after she was elected as the flag bearer by fellow teammates. She said, “I’m looking forward to carrying the flag with my teammates by my side and closing out these Games.”
