Professional bodybuilder Chris Bumstead has confessed to having struggled a lot in life in his pursuit of choosing bodybuilding as a career. Bumstead’s mother was not very fond of this idea. The Canadian athlete discusses his past struggles in his YouTube video podcast.

Chris Bumstead is renowned for having won the Mr. Olympia competition three times in a row. From 2019 to 2021.

Conflicting opinions between Chris Bumstead and his mother

“My mom still told me I need to go back to college and get a degree,” says Chris. Not being able to align with his mother’s ideals, Chris took it upon himself to pursue his passion.

He states, “so I graduated high school, took a year off, went to work for a while, and that’s when I kind of got into the bodybuilding platform.” Working tirelessly to pay his bills, Chris had a hard time figuring life out.

Bodybuilding Icon Chris Bumstead Confessed in 2020 That He “Was Never Really Sure What His Father Did for a Living”

The reigning Mr. Olympia Classic Physique champion, Chris Bumstead, has always been known to be social. But he still struggled to keep up the buzz. “This was even before social media was like big, big, so I was shut off,” he says.

Life wasn’t a bed of roses for Bumstead

“I was in University, trying to make money, pay for food,” says the 27-year-old. Having had to juggle being a student and a bodybuilder at the same time, Chris often found himself in periods of unemployment which he would utilize to work on his physique. He was working as a mover at his school’s social gym. But he would have eight months of the off-season, and in the summer, he would work full time.

“So I was trying to put my year into phases,” continues Bumstead. It all came down to what he chose to prioritize and what he sacrificed. It took him some time to build the traction he enjoys on his social media, with close to 11 Million followers on Instagram.

Having disagreed with his mom sure did not make life simpler for Chris. But he still managed to choose his passion over social stereotypes. In conclusion, “it was a grind for a long time,” he adds.
