“Tipping Point of Being Too Heavy”: Four-Time World’s Strongest Man Opened Up About What It’s Like To Weigh 470 Pounds Earlier This Year

Brian Shaw is a professional American strongman and a four-time World’s Strongest Man champion. In 2011, Shaw became the first person to win the Arnold Classic Strongman and the World’s Strongest Man event in the same year.

He is widely known as one of the greatest strength athletes in history. However, once Shaw went too far with his weight that he almost crossed the tipping point. The strongman once weighed 470 pounds and opened up about his thoughts on the same.

Brian Shaw wasn’t happy to weigh 470pounds

The strongman has a YouTube channel named Shawstrength, where he regularly shares updates on his life and also interacts with his fans. In a recent video, Shaw did a Q&A with his viewers, answering some important updates and certain memories from his career.

He talked about his strongman career, future projects, and return to the stage. One of the questions was about Shaw’s highest body weight. To this question, Shaw recalled and said that it was during the 2017 Strongest man competition. During this period, Shaw probably weighed around 470pounds and admitted that he didn’t really feel comfortable in his body.

He said, “At that weight, I was very uncomfortable… That was probably for me kinda the tipping point of being too heavy.” Soon, Shaw decided to lose weight and sought a different approach to his training. The strongman remains in the 400 pounds range but never aims to go beyond that.

2017 was the same year when Shaw lost the World’s Strongest Man title to fellow competitor Eddie Hall and ended up being in third place. Did being uncomfortable with his weight lead Shaw to lose the world title that year?

Will Shaw return to the Strongman stage?

Currently, Shaw is on a break for the rest of the 2022 competing season. Earlier, Shaw was invited to the 2022 Rogue Invitational, but the strongman declined the invitation, hinting that he was on a break for the remainder of the year.

Hopefully, the strongman will be back in 2023, and we will get to see him in action soon. Shaw also talked about a potential future project with his fellow strongman Eddie Hall, as the fans love to watch the two athletes hang out together.
