The IFBB Mr. Olympia 2022 bodybuilding competition has come to a close. With Hadi Choopan securing the crown, experts were eager to take a closer look at why defending champion Big Ramy lost out on securing the title this year.
Egyptian pro-strength athlete Mamdouh Elssbiay, lovingly called Big Ramy, was the victor in the last two installments of the contest in 2020 and 2021. In a recent youtube video by Nick’s Strength and Power, they discuss how Ramy looked better in the pre-judge round, and why he struggled with his poses.

Big Ramy struggled to pose due to his injuries
Although Big Ramy has not suffered any significant injuries, he could not lift for 6 months due to a shoulder-related issue in 2019. As discussed in the video, “he had lumps on his quads”. “There were some poses that he really struggled with, even though he looked better at finals,” said the narrator.

It is a highly unlikely phenomenon to witness a reigning champion fall four ranks the next year. Apart from his performance, fans are also inquiring about political inclinations in the decision-making process.
“A lot of people say Ramy wasn’t doing much to represent the title. He wasn’t making appearances, he wasn’t active on social media until the weeks right before the Olympia,” argues the narrator.
