“Lost Everything, My Mansion, My Cars…”: Bodybuilding Legend Flex Wheeler Once Opened Up on Dark Time of His Life Due to Rare Disease

The field of bodybuilding consists of various inspiring stories. Many bodybuilders have emerged from tough situations and made the best of what they had. Bodybuilder and legend Flex Wheeler is one such figure to look up to. The icon is a 4-time Arnold Classic champion and is one of the most decorated bodybuilders in history.

However, Flex has been through a lot of struggle to get to where he is today. The champion battled a rare disease and faced amputation. Once known for his amazing build, he had his life turned upside down in a snap. He opened up about how his rare disease stole everything from him, and how he emerged from that.

Flex Wheeler lost everything

While speaking about his rare disease, the icon mentioned how it took a year to diagnose it owing to its rarity. His sponsors, however, weren’t happy listening to the news. He explained that they correlated his profession to the disease, while he argued against the assumption.

The bodybuilder has battled with kidney disease since his teenage and had to take drastic steps in the future owing to his condition. He recounted how all his sponsors abandoned him after hearing about his condition.

This was a dark period in the legend’s life. He had to give up all his assets in order to be able to fight his disease. The icon emotionally recalled those days, ” I just lost everything, my mansion, my cars…” Since his sponsors abandoned him, he felt betrayed. He explained that this was one of the dark sides of their work.

Flex, later on, had more concerning issues that emerged from his kidney disease. They began with a blockage in his arteries, stopped blood flow, and unfortunately amputation of his leg. Flex went through a lot mentally and physically. He survived those hardships as he had a ‘never give up’ attitude.
