

Serena Williams and Venus Williams, the tennis queens, hold a special place in the world of sports. Whether it is their winning streak, rivalry, or sisterhood, their contributions have taken the sport several notches higher. The sisters who are just one year apart began playing from an early age coached by their parents. With more than two decades in the sport and numerous titles, medals, and achievements in February this year, the sisters hinted at pursuing bodybuilding post-retirement.

Female bodybuilding began in the 80s after Arnold Schwarzenegger, popularised with his impeccable physique and signature poses. The sport gained momentum with more and more women hitting the gyms to craft a muscular physique. Naturally gifted with terrific fitness and explosive power, in the interview, the Williams sisters embraced the idea of doing what they feel as they have devoted all their lives to work.

Equally competitive and skilled, the Williams sisters redefined the status of the sport. Also, they made history by occupying the top two positions in 2002 after the French Open, with Serena at No 1 and Venus at No 2.

48 Grand Slams, four Olympic gold medals, and several accomplishments justify Venus’ words, “From such a young age, all we’ve done is work.” Talking about their retirement, she said, “So I think for Serena and I to explore that freedom is surreal. We’ve never been free.”
Retirement is indeed opening a new chapter in life. And the sisters chose to pursue an interesting sport. “Serena and I say we’re going to become bodybuilders after tennis,” Venus said. She continued, “It might be extreme. It might not happen exactly like that, but you never know.”

Williams sisters always plan ahead
Although it is not known whether they would translate their bodybuilding goal into reality, one can be sure that they have a plan laid out. Speaking about her retirement, Serena said that she was prepared for that day and had been prepared for that day for over a decade.

Moreover, she added that it is very important to always have a plan, and “..that’s kind of what I did. I always had a plan.” Furthermore, she said that they never planned to just play tennis, “We planned to do more.” Serena Williams announced her retirement in August this year.

Venus Williams, 42 recently hinted about her retirement plans that she loves teaching. Teaching, bodybuilding, upping their game in the business–it can be anything; the sisters continue to spread their magic and retirement is no excuse.
