In bull riding, a rider’s career may be made or destroyed in a matter of seconds. There are a lot of fans that tune in to see their favorite rider, or “star,” conquer the bull in the arena. Even though the focus of the sport is on the bulls and the riders, the rodeo clown has always been a hit with the audience. These rodeo clowns play a crucial part in every show. A clown’s main responsibility is to keep the audience amused during the rodeo’s slower times. Fans are typically heartbroken when their favorite bull rider or rodeo clown announces their retirement.

History of the bull riding entertainer

Choteau native and PBR exclusive performer Flint Rasmussen’s farewell performance in front of his local audience makes this stop extra memorable. When Rasmussen takes the stage at a PBR event, his supporters temporarily escape the stresses of their daily lives and focus on nothing except his outstanding performance. Rasmussen is well-versed in several sports because of his upbringing in both Havre and Choteau. The Choteau native began his career as an educator before following his passion for the entertainment industry to the PBR as a rodeo clown.

Rasmussen started out in the rodeo industry in 1998 when he worked his first National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas. As reported by SWX, the popular rodeo clown also recalls a moment, saying, “Great experience through rodeo, going to rodeos I only read about, the NFR being one of those. I didn’t think I’d ever have a shot to roll my barrel out in Thomas and Mack Arena and in 1998 I did that, scared to death.” The performer secured an exclusive contract with the PBR in 2005, and the rest is history.

The moment when a star became a legend

As a result of Flint Rasmussen’s breakthroughs, rodeo clowns are now recognized as legitimate arena performers. Rasmussen has been all over the country and the world for the last 17 years because of the PBR’s extensive touring schedule. With a heart attack at age 41 and lingering damage from a relentless work schedule, he has made the difficult but necessary choice to retire.
