Being a world chess champion comes with a lot of responsibilities, but it should also be fun. To be there at the top. Observing everything like a king. Though the thing is, perhaps Magnus Carlsen has already lived every single one of these feelings in the last decade. However, does that mean he longer wants to be the world champion? Is he going to give away his title just like that?

Five world championships, the highest-rated player ever, clearly the best chess player in the history of the game. Has it all become too boring for the Norwegian Grand Master Magnus Carlsen?

Is he playing the 2023 world championship or not?

Amidst all the hints by the world chess champion about his retirement, the chess fans are screaming just one question: Is it over? However, just like in chess, Carlsen has been working in mysteries here as well. Once again, he has broached the subject of retirement in his subtle manner. He said, “I have to admit that there have been times after the match that I had regrets about what I said after the match. Why didn’t I just make it simple and say that I am done?”

Still playing his riddles, Carlsen further added, “I wanted to quit while on top, and it’s clearly what’s most likely to happen, but who knows. I have changed opinions before, but when I have the same feeling for too long, it rarely changes back. So no, I am not closer to playing a title match than I was after the World Championship.”

No one knows what Magnus Carlsen wants

The way Magnus Carlsen functions in the game of chess and in real life is still a mystery for everyone. After defending his world championship title against Russian Grand Master Ian Nepomniachtchi, he made a similar statement about retirement. However, only he can know for sure where his heart is.

Although the decision about retirement makes sense given that he is at the top of his amazing career. But he plans to do so. It would be heartbreaking for all the fans around the world. Magnus Carlsen is the reason a million people follow chess, and without him, nothing would be the same.
