Fans often manifest the life of successful athletes. The limelight fascinates the followers, and many want to live in that culture. However, this limelight makes athletes subject to constant evaluation. They are constantly compared, sometimes by their competitors and sometimes by the veterans. A similar comparison has started between former cyclist Lance Armstrong and an emerging player.

Lance Armstrong was among the few players who dominated the cycling sport throughout his career. His seven consecutive Tour De France titles made him the face of the sport. His infamous doping scandal eventually took away everything from him. Since his retirement, fans have compared several athletes with him. But this time, the former Belgium cyclist has compared his compatriot Remco Evenepoel with Lance Armstrong. 

Remco Evenepoel’s mentality is just like that of Lance Armstrong

The lead director at QuickStep-Alpha Vinyl, Klaas Lodewyck, has created a buzz by comparing his fellow countryman and Vuelta winner Remco Evenepoel to Lance Armstrong. He saw the same characteristics in the Belgian cyclist that the world saw in Armstrong. Although, the comparison was not based on stats but on their mindset.  

In an interview with Ride Media, Klass said that although the comparison is not fair in terms of numbers, however, both cyclists possess the same temperament. He said, “It may be a wrong comparison, but in terms of character I do see similarities between Remco and Lance,”

Klass added that Armstrong’s action cannot be justified, but he was always hungry for races and wins. Klass had seen similar traits in Remco, as well. “Lance was also someone who could never win enough,” he admitted. 

Klaas observed various similarities between the two talent houses

Klaas informed in the interviews that Remco is always two steps ahead of everyone in the planning. He always looks up to the upcoming challenges, like Lance used to. “He wanted to be the best. Remco has always wanted to win that too” he added. 

Klaas further commented on the similar competitive attitude of Remco. He explained that Lance Armstrong was never shy to answer his critics. His performances and blunt answers always created a buzz. Remco similarly wants to shut their mouth with his performance. Klaas clarified that Remco is though much more conscious of his words.

Remco Evenepoel is currently in the form of his life. He has been catching eyes of the fans and experts from around the world. Now Klaas’s comment would only intensify the pressure on Remco. So far, neither Remco nor Lance Armstrong has responded to this news. However, it would be interesting to see whether Remco Evenepoel could fill the shoes of the former cycling superstar Lance Armstrong.
