In a recently uploaded YouTube video, former professional cyclist Lance Armstrong spoke about his thoughts on the accident. Armstrong said that this may not be the final year of the Brit’s career. He further said, “there are two scenarios for Mark Cavendish in this Tour de France. One is, you know, either he won yesterday and broke the record, or maybe we wait until ten years he breaks the record in Paris. That’s certainly the greatest story imaginable and the other is to leave in an ambulance. I mean they’re so far apart and, and um it was awful awful to see.”

Armstrong also said that a collarbone injury is not much of a career threat. He noted that collarbone injuries are prevalent in cycling. “If you haven’t broken a collarbone, then you haven’t (ridden) very much.”

Lance Armstrong also said that Mark Cavendish had a hard time finding a good team in the off-season. “the drama and the stress that he went through in the off season trying to find just find a team that had an entry into the tour. That that seemed absolutely ridiculous that there wasn’t uh better options for him. I mean, I’m not going to sit here and criticize Astana but that’s not a great team for him.”

Speaking on what could have been a possible good fit for Cavendish, Armstrong said, “if Mark Cavendish had a Matthew Vanderpool Woody have already won a stage.”

Vinokourov said that he had also suffered a femur injury in 2011, the year he planned to retire. However, he did not intend to go out like that. “I stayed on and fought hard to win the Olympic Games in London the following year. Mark has the same mentality and the same determination to achieve his ultimate goal. We’re ready to give him that opportunity. But it’s up to him.” Do you think Mark Cavendish will postpone his retirement to return in 2024?
