When it comes to cycling, the disgraced former cyclist Lance Armstrong needs no introduction. Although he had a lot on his plate because of his doping scandal, Lance is currently trying to make people’s lives better through his organization, WEDU. He has been focused on his other expertise rather than his favorite sport.

Back in 2020, American actor and producer Matthew McConaughey sat down for an interview with Lance Armstrong. The two Texans talked about the Dallas Buyers Club. The movie for which Matthew went through a lot, in a positive way, as his story behind the scenes of the movie touched the hearts of many of his fans.

The journal that changed everything

Lance Armstrong already knew about the journal used in the movie, as the movie is based on a real-life story of an individual who hailed from Dallas, Texas. His name was Ron, and he was an electrician who later was diagnosed with AIDS. Prior to contracting AIDS, he was assisting AIDS patients.

“But uh the coolest part of the story is and I didn’t know this that you know you had gone up to see Ron’s family up in Dallas had a great meeting. I think you’re probably just trying to you know get some nuggets and tidbits of his life, his characters, his you know, his tics, his whatever and as you’re leaving they you know clearly they enjoyed the visit, and they said would you like his journal? I mean, boy, I’m that something like that has to change. I don’t know what the journal said um but that would have had to have changed the whole performance,” Lance said

Lance felt connected with Matthew, as both were from Texas. He also started off the conversation with the Texas-based movie Matthew acted in. Lance pointed out Ron’s journal, which was used as a reference in the film made a huge impact on the movie, as it was about the main character. It also helped Matthew dive into the character he was going to play. Reading everything that Ron went through before and after he was diagnosed helped Matthew a lot. If it weren’t for the family of Ron who handed over his journal, the movie wouldn’t have been the same, not even close, as per Matthew.
