Portnoy has a bone to pick with two Ivy League institutions, namely, Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania. He also took umbrage at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

With a majority of the American population taking opposing sides in the ongoing 66-day-old Israel-Hamas conflict, college campuses were no exception. After their testimony last week in front of Congress on the subject of anti-Semitism, the presidents of the aforementioned institutions faced backlash. Harvard’s board of directors and staff announced their support for their embattled president, Dr. Claudine Gay. That left Dave Portnoy incensed.

Dave Portnoy took to his X handle. He shared a 72-second-long clip of himself appearing on Stuart Varney’s show on Fox Business Network to discuss the fallout of Harvard’s reaction. Additionally, he wrote, “Just to reiterate, I will never hire a Harvard grad again. Your diploma is useless to me. The entire country should do the same.”

Days earlier, the head of the University of Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Magill, announced her intent to resign from her post. The members of the board and around 700 of the staff at Harvard stepped in to steer Dr. Claudine Gay away from a similar fate, as per the BBC. According to the same source, Dr. Gay said she believed calls for the genocide of Jews were repugnant. She added whether they ought to be considered violations of Harvard’s code of conduct regarding bullying and harassment was context-dependent.

Dave Portnoy has always been vociferous for all the championing powers he has vested in him. He affirmed his standing with everyone set to be affected by the conflict, regardless of the flag they choose to wave.

Dave Portnoy stated categorically there is a difference between free speech and hate speech. He noted, “… I think when you’re endangering people, causing them harm, I think you got to put a stop to it. It’s called common sense.” It remains to be seen if any others join Portnoy’s crusade against these institutions.
