Recently, an incident unfolded on October 20, 2023, that sent shivers through the equestrian community. Alfredo Luevano, a 53-year-old exercise rider, met an unexpected fate during a routine training session at the renowned Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, California. Equestrian tragedy

In a solemn and tragic incident, Alfredo Luevano lost his life during a routine training session, despite immediate medical attention. Detailed eyewitness accounts of the event remained scarce on that Saturday night. Luevano was swiftly transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, where he was sadly declared deceased.

The 2-year-old filly involved, named Fly From The Fire, miraculously escaped unscathed. With a remarkable racing history under the guidance of Mike Casselman, she was initially scheduled to participate in a race on the evening of October 21. However, in a precautionary move, track management opted to withdraw her from the event. In response to this heartbreaking incident, Los Alamitos Race Course extended its deepest condolences to Mr. Luevano’s family and friends, as conveyed by spokesperson Orlando Gutierrez.

Honouring Alfredo Luevano’s legacy

Hailing from Luis Moya in Zacatecas, Mexico, Alfredo Luevano’s illustrious career in horse racing spanned over a decade, leaving an indelible mark on the equestrian world. Throughout his remarkable journey, he graced the saddle of 33 horses in the United States, showcasing his exceptional riding skills across various horse breeds.

In a poignant turn of events earlier this year, Alfredo secured an exercise rider license from the esteemed California Horse Racing Board, underscoring his enduring passion for the sport. Alfredo Luevano’s legacy extends beyond the racetrack. He leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted wife, Marisela Martinez, their cherished children – Lisbet, Alfredo Jr., Alex, Aldo, and Camila, as well as six adoring grandchildren. His father, Augustine, also mourns the loss of his son.
