On May 27, during the CCI3*-L event in Bicton, a horse fall occurred at fence seven, leading to the euthanization of nine-year-old mare Daiquiri. Zazie Gardeau, the 21-year-old rider, suffered injuries and was swiftly transported to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance. The accident took place during the challenging cross-country course, precisely at obstacle number 7, where Daiquiri stumbled. Currently, Gardeau remains in intensive care, with her condition reported as stable. Details regarding the specific nature of her injuries have not yet been disclosed.

Zazie Gardeau’s equestrian journey began at the age of four, alongside her passion for swimming, influenced by her mother Hélène Riccardo, who is an Olympian. Seems like something is wrong,” The frequency of injuries and fatalities in equestrian events prompted a plea for change from an observer, stating, “Too many significant injuries and deaths, it’s time British eventing made some changes.”

Condolences and support poured in, with one person offering sympathies, saying, “Devastating, so sorry for your loss and wishing you a speedy recovery.” Another individual mourned, “Poor Daquiri, run free beautiful boy,” showcasing the deep bond and sorrow felt for the lost horse.
