Racehorses carry the expectations of a lot of people. This includes not only their riders, trainers, and owners but also the people who desperately want them to win. Delivering on the thousands of expectations pegged on it, this racehorse won one of the most prominent races of its career in a ‘Wicked’ way. Although this filly is still quite new to racing, it has already won enough hearts in the equestrian community to become the favorite of the race.

Equestrian opens up about riding Wicked Halo for the first time

Cristian Torres is one of the most proficient jockeys in the equestrian world. With a net worth of $21.7 million, the jockey has won 112 races this year. This was the first time he held the reins of Wicked Halo, and he won the Twin Bridge Stakes race leaving no room for errors. Torres beautifully commanded the rookie racehorse to the best of its capabilities, resulting in a much-anticipated victory. However, after the race was finished, Torres humbly said, “She’s won a lot of stakes. She’s very professional, I was just holding onto her.”

When asked what went through his mind while racing against several other good horses, Torres said he wasn’t very worried. He was also questioned about the other racehorse with the most chances of winning, named Non Violence. “I knew (Non Violence) has been improving race by race, so I had to work a little bit harder to pass by her, but my filly has a lot of class and got the job done,” said the veteran jockey to Bloodhorse. While Torres may not like to take much credit for the race, winning the $125,000 race was no easy task.

Torres made sure that Wicked Halo played to her strengths. The equestrian trusted his loyal filly, but he knew how to approach without rushing things. Trailing steadily behind the pacesetters, Torres saved the breakaway sprint for the latter part of the race. Once in the clear, he made zero delays in zipping past the leaders to grab the first position.

While Non Violence was also awaiting a final burst push, the team of Torres and Wicked Halo didn’t allow the lead to change. The equestrian duo finished in first place and won the race by 1 ¼ lengths. With this victory, Wicked Halo registered its second win of the year in just four races.
