Italian rider Frankie Dettori has a net worth of over $200 million. After a long, star-studded career, the veteran equestrian plans to retire soon. However, before making his exit, the legend auctioned away his trophies to make an unbelievable fortune.

Equestrian trophies worth thousands of Pounds

The equestrian jockey earned more than £75,000, which is around $96,450, by giving away more than 120 different awards, prizes, and trophies. Collectors had majorly joined the auction from Italy, Britain, Italy, Japan, Macau, Australia, Ireland, Hong Kong, and the USA. Apart from his trophies, the 52-year-old also sold a lot of goods he used for certain races. The trophies attracted fierce competition among buyers. In fact, several trophies single-handedly managed to earn a lot of money.

Lanfranco Dettori MBE or Frankie Dettori as he is popularly known, primarily races in England. The career of the veteran equestrian has already spanned 35 glorious years. He has won the title of British Flat Racing Champion a total of three times. Dettori is one of the most loved riders in the world, and collectors worldwide were very excited when they heard that Dettori was going to auction his valuable trophies. The auction was held at Cheffins in the UK and was closed on 18th July.

Frankie Dettori donates to charity and plans retirement

A portion of the earnings from the auction has already been earmarked to be given away to charity. Dettori has planned to donate money to the charity founded by his long-time friend and his mentor in his dog days called Aid For Africa. His friend passed away in the year 2021. The veteran equestrian and his wife Catherine had made the decision to auction the trophies. They also plan to move out of their luxurious mansion and rent it while moving into a more humble abode. They will follow through with all their plans once Dettori finally takes his leave from equestrian sports.

Before making his final departure, however, Dettori plans to race in three big contests. He will participate in his final British soil race on 21st October at the Qipco Champions Day at the Ascot track. The Breeder’s Cup will follow this in California, and, lastly, the Grade 1 Melbourne Cup on 7th November.
