William Buick’s gallop on Modern Games in Newbury’s Lockinge stakes gave fans a massive dose of entertainment. Overtaking various competitors like Berkshire Shadow and Laurel, Modern Games had an intense challenge with the horse Chindit. Though Modern Games left Chindit behind, securing a lead in the race, Chindit bit William Buick in a close contest.
After the incident, Buick disclosed that this was the first time he had been injured in this manner during a race. Praising his horse Modern Games, the equestrian also expressed how luckily, the rival jockey Patt Dobbs wasn’t injured in this confrontation between Chindit and Modern Games. Chindit secured second place in this race. Here is a glimpse of the dramatic events that unfolded during this intense competition at the Lockinge Stakes.

A nail-biting contest between two horses

Galloping confidently in the race, Modern Games got closer to overtaking Chindit after the 150m mark. As Modern Games was about to gain the lead, the 5-year-old horse attempted to bite Modern Games and his jockey Buick. This resulted in blood oozing out from the 34-year-old jockey’s hand. Despite this, Buick and his horse managed to edge past Chindit and secure an amazing victory. This win was as thrilling as the victory of the horse Mage in the Kentucky Derby.
After this victory, Buick hinted how he was ready to win at any cost. “I’ll take a bruise for that”, he said. Continuing, the jockey related, “They had a tussle but this horse is a superstar.” Further, Buick complimented his horse. “He’s so consistent and is a joy to have anything to do with. He’s there whenever you need him and he’s done it now in England, in France and America a couple of times.”
Thrilled at this win, Buick also updated his fans about his victory and posted a memorable picture of this win on Instagram.

Luis Suarez, a football player from Uruguay, has bitten competitors thrice during his football career. He first bit Dutch footballer Ottman Bakkal during a match between Liverpool versus the Blues in 2010. Post this, a ban was enforced, restricting him from playing 7 games.
The footballer next bit Branislav Ivanovic in a match of Liverpool versus Chelsea in 2013. This time, the Liverpool forward was restricted from playing 10 games. After this, Suarez bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini on the shoulder in a match during the 2014 World Cup. This was the last straw for football authorities who prohibited him from doing anything related to football for four months. With this, Suarez was also banned from playing 9 international upcoming matches.
Chindit and Suarez’s stories are proof of how everything is possible in the world of sports. It remains to be seen whether Chindit continues to bite his rival opponents in upcoming races.
