The equestrian enthusiasts are hooked with the ongoing Kenneland’s September Yearling Sale. It began on the 11th of September 2023, and it has started big since day 1. From the very first day, it has witnessed huge sales and numbers. This auction is the largest space for Thoroughbred yearlings and is considered one of the most integral Thoroughbred sales.

This sale is considered to stand apart from all the other auctions as it has multiple unique attributes. It involves a decent amount of quality yearlings at all levels of the market. It has proved to be one of the largest and most varied buying benches in the world and the proven success of its sales keeps reaching the highest levels of racing worldwide. Recently, once again a sale here has broken records, and the enthusiasts are stunned. The entire sale was a treat for all with the auction racing its bar high.

Enthusiasts witness new records at an equestrian auction 

The 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale is witnessing new records. Recently, on the 21st of September, in the auction, the selling of a filly shattered records. A filly by Bolt d’Oro was acquired by Choctow Racing for a whopping amount of $127,000. This purchase made the record for the highest price of that day’s 10th session. Assigned by the mediator, Paramount Sales, the horse belongs to the line of the Tale of the Car mare Tigress Tale and is a half-sister to stakes winner Empress Tigress.

The numbers in this sale have been touching the sky. According to the Paulick Report, a total of 289 yearlings were sold on September 21st for $9,276,500. The average for this is $32,099 and a median of $25,000. As compared to last year, the gross has decreased by 10.24% when 308 horses were sold for $10,335,000.

There is a decrease in the average as well, however, the median is the same. When the entire year is taken into perspective, a total of 2,392 yearlings have been sold in this sale for $388,649,700. This has an average of $162,479 and has a median of $85,000. This year has been a good one with the sale of high-quality fillies in a good range.

Other sales in the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale 

The sale has seen a good amount of numbers this year. And this was possible because of the high number of colts being sold to good hands. First is the Bolt d’Oro’s filly, the second highest of the 21st of September is the colt bought by Korea Racing Authority by Frosted for $10,000. It was allocated by Brookdale Sales, the colt is out of a winning daughter of Forest Wildcat, named Streaker.

There are other three colts who were bought for $105,000. The first one was bought by the Three Amigos, who was a son of complexity. The second one was the son of Laoban who was bought by Calumet Farm. Calumet Farm is the leading buyer of this season as he has bought five horses for $390,000. And the last one who was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency was sold to Don’t Stop Me Now Stable.

Taylor Made Sales Agency was given the title of the leading consignor with sales of $791,000 with a number of 24 horses. This year’s Yearling Sale has two days remaining, one on the 22nd of September and the next one on the 23rd of September. The equestrian enthusiasts are eager to get updates about the same and await to know what will happen at the auctions and who goes big.
