They couldn’t go out for after-school activities without completing their homework and lagging in any subject would call for additional tuitions. “The work ethic and the importance of education was emphasized to an extreme amount during my childhood”, said Gates. This also encouraged her to pursue further studies and develop a strong penchant for the medical stream.

So, “not to go to college which was obviously not an option for” her even though her equestrian peers gave up conventional studies for a career. In the PedsDocTalk podcast, Jenn shared her life after Leila’s birth. “I think that I’m still finding my identity as a parent…  to feel that openness like you always don’t have to be perfect has been really nice and refreshing”, said the 27-year-old.
