Secretariat is the legendary American equestrian horse. He achieved a remarkable name by winning the American Triple Crown. He has famed his name by securing the best-ever time records in all three races which are known to be the prestigious as well as hardest such as Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. Secretariat is widely regarded as the greatest racehorse in history by his performance all the time.

He was born on March 30, 1970, in the state of Virginia. He boasted impressive lineage. He was the offspring of Bold Ruler and Something Royal, a daughter of Princequillo. Standing at 16.2 hands (66 inches) and weighing 1,200 pounds, Secretariat was a powerful and athletic horse, known for his lengthy stride and extraordinary heart. Just recently, a statue was made to honor his memory which touched the hearts of his fans.

An equestrian legend’s legacy

In 1972, Secretariat burst onto the racing scene with a string of victories, including the Champagne Stakes and the Hopeful Stakes. He achieved victory in? Belmont Stakes and set a new track record. It was this extraordinary performance that earned him the enduring nickname “Big Red?. Secretariat retired to stud after his three-year-old season. He went on to become a successful sire, producing several champion racehorses, including Lady’s Secret and Risen Star. Secretariat died on October 4, 1989, at the age of 19. He is buried at Meadow Stud, where he was born.

Nearly 50 years after ?the real Secretariat? retired to Claiborne Farm, his commemorative bronze sculpture stopped by before being placed at Secretariat Park in downtown Paris. The dedication and grand reveal of the park is set for Saturday, November 11, at noon.
