Commentators Face Immediate Suspension After Abusive Comments on World Champion Go Live During World Figure Skating Championship 2022

In a tournament, usually, athletes are the ones getting all the attention. But in World Figure Skating Champion commentators have gathered quite a limelight for themselves. However, it’s not in a good way. The British figure skating commentators Simon Reed and Nicky Slater have been caught up in a controversy in the world championship.

Although a lot of figure skaters including Nathan Chen and the Japanese legend Yuzuru Hanyu have missed the championship. However, even in their absence the world championship is as vibrant as ever. All the figure skaters in the tournament have so far put on a great show. And it’ll only get better by the time championship reaches its end.

Commentators suspended from World Figure Skating Champion for abusive remark

On the charges of abusive remark towards the former Canadian figure skater Meagan Duhamel, International Skating Union suspended commentators Simon Reed and Nicky Slater on Thursday. The two commentators were having a conversation while they thought their microphones were off. And made an abusive remark about Meagan Duhamel.

Commentator Simon Reed called Duhamel “the b—- from Canada.” The ISU has condemned both commentators’ behavior and has penalized both of them. They further apologized to the two-time world champion Duhamel and ensured a proper investigation on the matter.

Meagan Duhamel accepts the apology

The former Canadian figure skater accepts the apology given by the two commentators and by the ISU. She said“I have received personal apologies from Simon Reed and the ISU president, and I don’t think a public apology is necessary at this point.” She further added“I appreciate and respect their apologies.”

Furthermore, ISU’s immediate response on the matter reflects that the organization will do a thorough investigation. And take action against the commentators. Duhamel also received quite a support on social media since the news was out. However, the incident is upsetting and needs to be addressed aptly.
