Perhaps the saddest part of the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 was when figure skating legend Yuzuru Hanyu injured himself trying the most difficult jump. It was sad because he failed at the jump as well as at his dream of winning the third consecutive Olympic gold. However, after almost two months, there is finally some good news for the Yuzuru Hanyu fans.

The Japanese figure skater performed in the finals of the men’s short program at the Beijing Olympics with an injured leg. He had to take a painkiller injection before the event to perform. It was because of the same injury that the legend withdrew from the World Figure Skating Championship in France as well.

A failed Olympic dream

Yuzuru Hanyu’s first performance in the figure skating short program was a little sloppy by his standards. To win his third consecutive Olympic gold, he needed to do something extraordinary in the finals. Hence, attempting a quad axel was the only way forward. However, with a failed attempt, his Olympic dream lay shattered on the ice.
