Winning a medal at the Olympics is the dream of every athlete. However, how would you feel about being denied what’s rightfully yours? Well, you certainly wouldn’t be happy about it and neither is Nathan Chen. The fact that Nathan and the team were denied the medal ceremony due to the Russian doping controversy still bothers the Olympic champion.

Apart from winning his first-ever Olympic gold in Beijing, Nathan Chen also won a silver medal in the figure skating team event. Though the team hasn’t received any medals yet.

The delay was caused because of the involvement of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva in a doping controversy. As long as the investigation continues, the winners will remain without medals.

Nathan Chen is still waiting for his medal

Even after two months since the Beijing Winter Olympics, the winners are still waiting for their medals. About the entire experience, Nathan said, “We got the empty boxes. We were wearing our medal ceremony kits and then they were like OH! this is not happening, go back and change. And we had no idea what was happening.”

The Olympic champion further added, “We were trying to push for having a ceremony and having something to sort of celebrate the work that we put in. We felt that we deserved it as a team and now we are still waiting for the decisions. So, fingers crossed that happens soon but the rest of the team and myself are waiting for the medal.”

Stars on Ice- A dream come true

As a child, Nathan was always curious about the Stars on Ice tour. However, his family wasn’t rich enough to afford the tickets for the show. Though what’s interesting is the fact that he is now the lead figure skater in the same show. For a 22-year-old figure skater, it’s nothing short of a dream come true.
