The Russian figure skater, Kamila Valieva, who won gold at the 2022 Beijing Olympics has recently been in the news for a doping incident. Unfortunately, the talented skater could not receive medals from the competition. The 16-year-old virtuoso tested positive for taking trimetazidine, a banned substance. This led to questioning the transparency of Russia’s Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA). And recently, she finally opened up on the incident.

This Kazan-born prodigy started figure skating at 3 years of age. Valieva holds nine world records as a minor figure skater. Starting with some successful landings, her performance was clearly indicating a mysterious backdrop this year. Thorough scrutiny proved the blunder done by the team personnel, which made her the victim. Well aware of the consequences, she felt ashamed and got emotional.

Recently, in an interview with PeopleTalk, she stated, “I am still in the process of transformation. It is impossible to just close my eyes to everything that was in my life and start a new one.”

Russian Figure Skater Kamila Valieva Returning to Ice After Doping Controversy at Beijing Winter Olympics 2022

She had her own share of suffering regarding the controversy. Valieva is not oblivious to the outcomes, so she said, “Of course, everything that happened will not disappear, but will become a distant memory – then it will be possible to talk about transformation.”

Despite her positive report, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) allowed her to compete in Olympics. She was taking a banned drug, which eventually led to her traumatic experiences. Now, she aspired to become someone more mature and wanted to focus on her game only.

Though today Valieva is not a very ideal figure in public eyes, she intended to make a return to flourish again. She wants to come back as a phoenix, transforming the controversy into future success to clear her name. She started by making her first appearance in the Channel One Cup in Saransk.
