Yuzuru Hanyu is a name that has helped in defining figure skating for what it is today. He is one of the very few athletes in the world whose stardom goes beyond the sport they play. In fact, when it comes to the fan following, he is undoubtedly the most adored figure skater in the world.

Though the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 was a terrible dream of the legend, he still rules the heart of figure skating fans. It was heartbreaking to watch him in so much pain in Beijing. The fact that he performed with an injured ankle after taking pain killer injections shows his dedication towards the game. His passion for the sport is simply unparalleled.

Throwback to when thousands of fans celebrated legend’s Olympic victory

Yuzuru Hanyu is a very big deal in figure skating, but in Japan, they literally worship the legend. When the champion came home after his second consecutive Olympic gold medal at Pyeongchang Games, the whole city was on the streets. Around 108,000 people showed up in the victory parade of their hero and it was nothing short of a festival.

However, the most fascinating fact of all was that the parade generated an estimated 1.85B yen ($16M) of income for the city. Though it’s simply unimaginable, it’s indeed true. One can only fathom the fan power Yuzuru Hanyu functions at.

Yuzuru Hanyu announces his comeback

After a failed Olympic dream, missing out on the world figure skating championship due to an injury, it’s finally time to welcome back the legend on the ice. Yuzuru Hanyu has announced that he’ll be a part of the Fantasy on Ice Japanese tour. The tour will take place from May to June this year. Here are the details of his schedule – Makuhari, Chiba (27-29 May); Nagoya (3-5 June); Kobe (17-19 June); and Shizuoka (24-26 June).
