Gymnastic sensation Simone Biles has been nominated for the Laureus Awards 2022. Not to mention, the Laureus Awards are one of the most prestigious honors in the sports community. The awards celebrate sportspersons who have been exceptional in their field and are an inspiration to look up to.

That being said, Simone Biles is one of the significant choices for this year’s awards. Biles, who is just 25, has changed the face of gymnastics. With a total of 32 medals, she is the most decorated gymnast of the year. Despite facing setbacks in Tokyo, the champion stood tall against all odds, prioritized her mental health, and returned to the podium as well.

In Tokyo, she opened up about the immense pressure and struggle she was under, ahead of her competition. So much so that Biles experienced an unfortunate case of the ‘twisties’. Regardless, she took a firm stand that has today helped people talk about a topic that was in dire need of the light.

She thanked the association for the nomination via her Instagram.

“Really honored to be nominated for the Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award,” wrote Biles.

Along with Biles, swimming legend Tom Daley, skateboarder Sky Brown, cyclist Annemiek Van Vleutan and Mark Cavendish are also among the nominees. Biles congratulated them as well.

“Congrats to all the nominees! Stay tuned to @LaureusSports for updates ahead of the Awards on April 24! #Laureus22,” she said.

However, the awards will be held virtually because of the covid-19 pandemic. Notably, it is US Legend Lindsey Vonn who will host the awards.

Lindsey Vonn to host the 2022 Laureus Awards

Vonn herself is a winner of the Laureus Awards. In 2019, she received the Laureus Spirit of Sport Award to mark the end of her phenomenal career. This year, the champion alpine skier will host the awards from Spain.

The fact that she has been on the receiving end herself makes her super excited to host these awards. There is, however, a requirement that all nominees must attend virtually and receive their awards by mail.
