Paul Skenes had a little moment on College GameDay! The kind that will have fans talking about it for a while, and it is all thanks to ESPN’s Rece Davis. Skenes has had a great rookie season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has punched out 170 in 133 innings and has even been ranked among the top six pitchers to throw 100 mph heat since he started in the majors. Despite this, Skenes had no escape from the playful jabs from Rece!
And how would Skenes escape? One of the most anticipated matches is, after all, right around the corner. The LSU Tigers are going head-to-head against Alabama soon. So, what’s so special about LSU? Well, Skenes’ girlfriend and gymnast, Olivia Dunne, is also an LSU athlete. And MLB All-Star boyfriend Paul Skenes will be playing during the same! In fact, Dunne is perhaps the most excited for the upcoming match.
So much so that Dunne took it to X and wrote, “Can’t wait!!! Let’s geaux.” On the other side, Rece Davis was equally excited. And went on to say, “They say his fastball stays in the middle of the plate. Who cares? It’s 104!” The crowds were all laughing. And Skenes? He probably wished he could throw a fastball to change the subject. But in reality, it was all good banter. And the 104 mph is something even the critics can’t ignore!

It’s the kind of playful banter that’s a staple of College GameDay, where even athletes like Skenes aren’t safe from roasts! But interestingly, the roast comes amidst the ongoing back-and-forth between Olivia Dunne and Nick Saban. It all began when Nick called Vanderbilt the easiest SEC venue to play at.
Livvy Dunne cheekily picked the Commodores to upset South Carolina, calling out Saban’s claim with a playful response. Despite all the ups and downs of collegiate athletics, Paul Skenes and Olivia Dunne are moving ahead, keeping their “yin and yang” in check!
