Her fans have been saying it for years, and after Paris, even some of the doubters, such as Piers Morgan, have changed their minds. Despite already being history’s most decorated gymnast, Simone Biles sought redemption for her disastrous performance at the Tokyo Olympics. Now, after winning three golds and a silver at the 2024 Olympic Games, even Google search has no more doubts.

Google, which still owns the most popular search engine in the market, has bestowed Biles with a special gift on Google Search. The company, who sometimes attach animated Easter eggs to certain popular keywords, has recognized Simone Biles as the greatest gymnast of all time. Simply ‘googling’ the seven-time Olympic gold medalist will last you on the search page, but now there’s a special goat-shaped button.

Clicking the GOAT button will initiate a shower of flower bouquets, confetti, and golden goats. While this isn’t any official award, it’s a fun way of celebrating the gymnast who has come to revolutionize every aspect of women’s gymnastics. It’s also another cheerful addition to the news of Biles’ club, WCC, hiring two new coaches to take Laurent and Cecile Landis’ place.

Cecile Landi had parted ways with Simone Biles and WCC to chase her dream of coaching college gymnasts right after the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, her husband Laurent Landi remained with the institution until recently. Yet on December 11, the WCC bid farewell to the Team USA Olympics coach. “Farewell to Coach Laurent! You will be greatly missed at WCC,” read the social media announcement.

However, WCC has already enlisted the help of veteran international coaches Patrick Kiens & Daymon Jones. Google’s homage to the gymnastics icon lined up almost perfectly with WCC’s announcement. This isn’t the first time Google has done something like this with athletes or even Biles. During the Tokyo Olympics, Biles became part of the 3D athletes roster in Google search.

Those who searched for the gymnast could also view a 3D model of Biles performing three of her iconic moves, complete with sound effects. However, there’s one key difference between the Tokyo Olympics and what Google did this time.

Why did Google choose December to honor Simone Biles?

Besides officially recognizing Simone Biles as the GOAT, Google broke an unspoken rule. Whenever the company introduces such unique features in its search, it’s tied to one event. During the Paris Summer Games, if you googled an athlete who won gold, Google gave a similar button. The button had a gold medal icon and pressing it would let you virtual bouquets.

These bouquets were quite similar to the one you’ll see while pressing the GOAT button. However, the question remains. Why did Google choose to choose the last month of the year to recognize Biles as the gymnastics GOAT? While there are no events, we can make some educated guesses. While Simone Biles hasn’t competed since the Olympics, 2024 has been an outstanding year for Biles.

Besides winning three Olympic golds and a silver, Biles has continued to pick up off-court wins. The gymnast headlined the Gold Over America Tour, won Critics Choice Awards for Simone Biles Rising Part 2 and finally became the highest paid gymnast of 2024. So maybe it’s not just her redemption in Paris, but how Simone Biles continued to reach new milestones throughout the year that prompted Google to make the homage.
