American gymnast Jordan Chiles shares a very close relationship with her mother, Gina. When the gymnast moved to Texas to train with best friend and gymnastics queen Simone Biles, her mother moved with her. Her father still called Vancouver, Washington, home, even though he too made regular trips to the lone-star state.

To show her mother how much she appreciates her, Jordan Chiles arranged for a little holiday surprise. It was in the form of a Christmas package. Gina Chiles received a package from Nike, wrapped with her daughter’s custom paper. The alphabets ‘JC’ were interspersed all throughout the chequered wrapping paper alongside a number of Nike’s trademark swooshes. The mother-daughter recently underwent the sad loss of someone very dear and are cherishing every small moment.

Gina Chiles shared an image of the wrapped package. To that, she added the words, “Got a surprise package today from @nike. I’m so so so excited to see what’s inside on Christmas!! For real – just seeing it wrapped in my daughter’s custom paper was enough.” She followed that with the teary-eyed emoji. Jordan Chiles shared the same image via Instagram story. She added the words, “Surprise shawty!!”

Gina Chiles will wait, as she revealed, until Christmas to open the package. Jordan Chiles’ fans will presumably have to wait until then to find out what she got her mother. If the wrapping paper reduced her mother to tears, one can only speculate as to the reaction when the package is finally opened.

The Chiles are making the best of the special moments moments. The two underwent a saddening moment recently when Jordan’s maternal grandfather recently passed away.

Jordan Chiles’ grandfather’s passing

Gene Velasquez, Gina Chiles’ father and Jordan Chiles’ maternal grandfather, passed away not long after Thanksgiving. When she heard he’d been hospitalized, the gymnast rushed to his bedside. He was one of the 22-year-old’s more prominent cheerleaders. Gina Chiles recounted an incident that showed how proud he was of his granddaughter’s talents. They pulled into the driveway one night after a gymnastics event only to see a balloon letting the neighborhood how Jordan Chiles did at the same.

With the 2024 Paris Olympics right around the corner, Jordan Chiles will look to add to her medal tally. She was part of the American team that secured the silver medal in gymnastics at the Tokyo Olympics. Chiles will look to honor her grandfather on the banks of the Seine next summer.
