Internet memes are the most relatable content for the new generation where they can participate and make them personal. And American gymnastics legend Simone Biles jumped on the bandwagon on Thursday, giving it a dark twist.

The “Little Miss” meme trend has taken over all social media platforms, especially Twitter. It draws from characters written by English author Roger Hargreaves. In 1981, he started writing a series called Little Miss, which uses characters like Little Miss Sunshine, Little Miss Trouble, and Little Miss Giggles.
Simone Biles’ take on the Little Miss trend
American gymnastics sensation Simone Biles tweeted her version of the Little Miss meme trend on Thursday, surprising fans with the grim direction it took. She wrote, “little miss traumatized by her olympic experience.”, and caused a storm on Twitter.

Biles referred to her last run in the Olympic Games at Tokyo in 2020, where she withdrew from multiple events citing mental health reasons. The gymnastics legend stated that she had been experiencing the ‘twisties’: a phenomenon that causes gymnasts to lose spacial awareness while in the air.
To protect herself from potentially fatal injuries and prioritize her physical and mental health, Biles pulled out of most of her individual events and the team final. Despite this, she won two medals in Tokyo, a silver and a bronze, racking up her Olympic medal tally to seven.

Since then, Simone Biles has been on hiatus. She has been enjoying her clear schedule on vacation with her fiance, NFL safety Jonathan Owens and winning immense honors like the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Of course, her tweet caused many fans to lend words of support, but many didn’t quite appreciate it.

Fans react to the gymnastics GOAT’s tweet
Simone Biles has 32 Olympic and World Championships medals and has been at the top of the field since she made her senior debut in 2013. Following a similar format, fans tweeted encouraging messages, expressing what the gymnast means to them. She’s crowned a national treasure, after all.

However, her withdrawal from the Olympics left a lot of Americans feeling angry, and Biles hasn’t yet managed to make her way into their good graces again. So naturally, some people didn’t appreciate the tweet as much.

Many believe the conversation deserves more nuance than it is granted.
Everyone saying ur an inspiration like that makes up for it, I can't imagine being at the top of my field before my 20s and having to deal with decline and expectations by my mid 20s, I hope you feel better and I truly think no one should be thrust into such intense competition

The whole internet is left in splits. Surprisingly, even American alpine skiing legend Mikaela Shiffrin and Olympic freestyle wrestler Sarah Hildebrandt also chipped in. They claimed that they relate to Biles’ tweet.

Either way, the gymnast’s stance on a return to the arena is still hazy. Where there’s a chance Biles might compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics, she has made no official statement yet.
