A Wednesday in Sportpaleis turned into a historic win for the Americans. The senior women’s gymnastics team won their seventh straight team gold at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship. The U.S. streak of dominance dethroned the Chinese men’s team for maximum gold in a row record. This season, legendary gymnast Simone Biles‘ return to pursue a string of victories promised the odds prematurely. Since her arrival, there has been a trend of margin?finishes, which continued into the Worlds.

The star-studded team’s event came to an emotional conclusion with the reunion of both newcomers and the international champions from the previous year on the mats. After competing, Biles embraced her coach as the latter praised an?international competitor?for their significant victory.

Simone Biles’ coach congratulates foreign gymnast
Biles, the American superstar added a 20th medal to her Worlds collection and a 26th on global events. In her lead, the skilled elite squad scored?167.729 on the team’s final yesterday. A big right hand of Biles throughout her comeback journey has been her French coach Cecile Landi who also coached French gymnast M?lanie De Jesus Dos Santos for the event. It was a twin victory for the compatriot coach who was elated when Santos won the first gold for France in the event. A Twitter(X) post by @Pamchenkova showed a tearful moment between the gymnasts and the coach.

Shilese Jones of the US gymnastics team was seen hugging the French gymnast, Simone praising her, and Joscelyn Roberson wiping away her happy tears all featured in the video’s opening moments. When Santos turned around, Coach Landi was standing there with her arms wide out. They hugged tightly. She didn’t leave without giving her a big, proud embrace and much appreciation. The tweet was captioned, “I’m not crying, you’re crying.”

American-French win status at World Artistic Gymnastic Championship
American gymnasts endured multiple errors and an injury in practice, but the Shilese-Simone top two overall place finishes held the show. Team USA topped with 167.729 points edging Brazil, headed by 2022 World all-around champion Rebeca Andrade. France wrapped the podium finish with 164.064 points. Notably, it’s France’s first team medal at the Worlds since winning silver in 1950!

Under the French coach’s guidance, Melanie de Jesus dos Santos won gold on the beam scoring 14.000. Taking her country’s first medal in over seven decades, she said, “I?m very proud of my team and of our performances. It?s unbelievable.”
