Laurie Hernandez, the esteemed member of the ‘Final Five’ of US Gymnastics has lived as quite the name during her career in the sport. The 23-year-old has managed to juggle between her television appearance and gymnastics training, but what takes the hat is her gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Though since Laurie has held onto a change in path, there is no separating her from her memorable presence in the sport.

Laurie, with the platform she held, landed notable brand deals throughout. From Toyota to UNICEF USA ambassador, the youngster has made her influence felt. Today, she continues with it as she joins Nike for a big reveal; the organization recently reeled in gymnastics fame Jordan Chiles as a part of their drive to engage girls in sports. Now, the 150 Billion dollar brand is back to launch a first-of-its-kind program, and right in front of the news update was the gymnastics icon.

Nike’s new project following team-up with Jordan Chiles

Laurie Hernandez joined Nike back in 2022, appearing for the podcast, ‘No off-season’. Back then, the youngster advocated for mental health and well-being during the awareness month. Yesterday, Laurie returned to join hands to touch upon body confidence. “Yesterday I teamed up with @nike to launch Body Confident Sport, a first-of-its-kind online coaching program,” Laurie wrote, sharing an Instagram post. “So grateful to be on a panel with such incredible human beings.”

For their new project, Nike joined hands with Dove to launch an online coaching program that will help build body confidence in 11-17-year-old girls. The project stands to be an important one after new research was revealed by the two organizations; which states that 45% of teenage girls drop out of sports with low body confidence as the major reason.

Sports fuels confidence, which in turn enables girls to enjoy a lifetime of moving and playing the sports they love. This is why I’m so proud to team up with Nike to support Body Confident Sport,” Laurie added according to Happi. The gymnast who once experienced the sports industry continues to stay in touch despite her new journey.

A new chapter for the gymnastics fame

Laurie Hernandez went on a hiatus from her career after returning from the Olympics back in 2016. The gymnast since appeared on Dancing with the Stars and continued her television appearance for the next 4 years; marking her drift from the sport in a professional setting. Keeping along, Laurie then joined New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. The youngster who just completed her freshman year is studying drama and possibly creative writing.

“There was a little part of me that was like, ‘Okay, I’m really good at gymnastics. Can I be good at anything else?’ Hernandez told Olympics.com. “Acting and just the world of entertainment is definitely on the horizon for me.” Despite all, Laurie still has a heart for the sport. The gymnast was previously at the US Classic and revealed that there is always a part of her that would love to make a comeback.
