In challenging times, people find promising ones to lean on, and the same is true for Mary Louise Retton. Olympic and national gymnastics champion Mary Lou Retton is currently in an intensive care unit in a hospital in Texas. McKenna Kelley, Retton’s daughter, first updated on her mother’s condition on Instagram, stating she’s “fighting for her life.” Retton, 55, the first American woman to win the Olympic all-around title, has been admitted for almost two weeks now. McKenna also requested financial help, citing her mother’s lack of health insurance, while not disclosing “all details.”

Mary Lou Retton receives love from DWTS partner

According to Retton’s daughter McKenna Kelley, her mother has been battling a lung infection in the ICU. Last week Shayla Schrepfer (Retton’s daughter) also released a video underlining, “It’s going to be a day by day process.” Receiving the update later than many, Mary Lou’s 27th season’s Dancing with the Star partner and pro dancer Sasha Farber stated, “I texted my dear Mary Lou during the show,” he added, “I sent her some pictures of us from the past performances, and she said it brought a smile to her face.”

The professional dancer, who paired with the gymnastics legend Simone Biles on season 24 of DWTS, provided exclusive details on his bond with Mary Lou. Farber claimed that Retton had requested to meet up in Los Angeles a few weeks prior, but he couldn’t meet up due to his busy rehearsal schedule. For the show’s 32nd season, Farber is presently paired with Alyson Hannigan who was standing alongside him while he chatted about Retton with ET reported E News.

Mary Lou left the 27th season of the competition during week six, although the duo continued to share a close friendship. The dancer also praised her daughter’s initiative to launch funds, further adding, “she’s like family to me and she’s a fighter… she’s strong.” Just days back, her daughter extended gratitude for the overwhelming response for her medical help. His positive response to Retton was similar to that of fellow co-star Simone Biles from her twisties departure.

How Simone Biles leaned on fellow dance partner

Apart from previously competing together in season 24 of DWTS, Farber helped Biles with the choreography for her floor dance for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Upon learning about her sudden exit, Farber expressed his shock at Biles’ departure, saying, “The pressure must be out of this world. Not only that, she’s literally holding all of America on her shoulders.” Speaking about the choreographing opportunity, he said, “It was just a dream come true.”

The G.O.A.T. has been considering hiring Farber for this important project for years. Normally, I work with a different choreographer, but this year, Biles said, “Even when I worked with Sasha [in 2017] on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ we frequently discussed how amazing it would be to come up with a floor routine together.” Having shared a close bond with the Olympic celebrities, while Shasha believes in Retton’s courage to fight the world chimes in to extend its prayers for her speedy recovery.
