With 7 Olympics and 25 world championships medals, she is one of the most decorated gymnasts ever. Additionally, to celebrate her remarkable contribution to the world of sports, president Joe Biden awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom, recently.

Simone Biles experienced separation anxiety as a child while living in foster care

Being separated from her family at such a young age was perhaps one of the most challenging times for Simone. Although she had her brother and other siblings in the same foster care, being in different rooms made it difficult for her to be with them. The gymnastics legend revealed, “I remember having a separation anxiety from my brother because there was like a girl’s room and boy’s room. So we couldn’t sleep together.”

However, the reason behind her feeling scared was “because I didn’t know if I was going to see him in the morning. So I would sneak over at night and sleep with him. And I’d get trouble in the morning,” added Biles.

Simone’s grandparents came as a blessing

The gymnastics legend moved from foster home to foster home until her grandparents Ron and Nellie Biles, finally adopted her and her young sister Adria. They gave Simone the family she was craving since her separation from her biological parents. Furthermore, they provided her with the opportunity to fulfill her dreams and make her family proud.

Today, Simone Biles gives credit for everything she has accomplished to her now parents, Ron and Nellie. Perhaps now, she can’t imagine a moment when they were not in her life. They have always been there, sometimes in the forefront, sometimes cheering for their daughter from a distance.
