Matthew Perry is a name to reckon with in the world of cinema. Perry played the character of Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends. Bing used the combination of sarcasm and humor periodically as a defense mechanism. Perry was found dead in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles. He was just 54 at the time of his passing, presumably due to drowning.

Chandler Bing’s influence felt world over

Much like fellow Friends character Joey Tribbiani, played by Matt LeBlanc, Chandler Bing influenced pop culture heavily. His brand of humor had many takers all over the world. Even so, Matthew Perry was human. He missed the mark at times, like the remarks he made about Sonny Liston at the ESPY Awards in 2005. The comments that followed about Mike Tyson were also received with stony silence, a comedian’s worst nightmare.

Matthew Perry is believed to have drowned. There is no definitive cause of death at the moment, though there is not much reason to suspect foul play, according to law enforcement sources. The investigation is still ongoing. Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s robbery-homicide division are presently in charge of the case. The coroner will determine the cause of death later.

Matthew Perry’s sphere of influence extended far beyond the screen. He is best known for his 234-episode-long stint on the set of Friends, which became a pop-culture phenomenon. His character is considered one of, if not, the best exponent of sarcasm in Hollywood. Perry will be sorely missed.
