The Tokyo Olympics 2020 saw the culmination of a new hero in Suni Lee. Significantly, Simone Biles withdrew from some gymnastics competitions, which allowed Lee to take the lead. She won a gold, a silver, and a bronze medal, in what was a sensational outing.

Now, she focuses on pursuing her other interests and enjoying her life outside of the sport. However, things were not always as smooth sailing as now. Shocking fans, Suni recently revealed that before appearing in Tokyo, she wanted to quit gymnastics.

Suni Lee wanted to quit gymnastics

In the dreadful pandemic that claimed the lives of many, Lee, unfortunately, lost someone dear to her as well. As the Tokyo Olympics was further delayed by a year, Lee, herself, was unsure of appearing in the games.

“I was thinking I should chill for a little bit and not do gymnastics, just focus on myself because at that point, honestly, my gymnastics was very bad. I wasn’t in the gym and I was just in my head too much, so it was hard for me to stay focused on the goal. There was a point where I was ready to just be done with gymnastics,” said Lee.

The delay in the Olympic Games further added to the atrocities and difficulties Olympians face in their preparations for the mega-quadrennial games. Hence, Suni Lee had a hard time, like others, maintaining focus. Notably, it was Simone Biles who brought the situation to light.
