The NCAA women’s gymnastics season returns this week, with the much-anticipated 2024 season beginning on Friday (5 January). The anticipation is enormous with top-ranked and defending NCAA champions Oklahoma among the teams set to compete on the gymnastics stage. However, the season is not without controversy with supporters outraged about a perceived lack of information and contact.
Despite the buzz around the new season, athletes and supporters are growing dissatisfied. Athletes, both new and returning, are caught in the middle of a void. This angst peaked when a tweet expressing unhappiness just days before the event went viral.

Gymnastics update that left many in anger
A gymnastics fan account @gymstan2213 expressed their displeasure on Twitter, writing, “the meet is in two days and we still don’t have broadcast info. they are literally setting up for the event and have not announced broadcast information. if I were a sponsor of an event, I’d pull out. terrible marketing.”

Having won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, Oklahoma Uni confronts the difficulty of maintaining its supremacy with returning talents like Ragan Smith, Jordan Bowers, and Audrey Davis, the Sooners are primed for another good season. Previous season runner-up Florida and LSU’s hunger for team title adds to the galore of this season among other colleges. However, before it all begins, the recent tweet garnered much traction in the community.

Clear, the NCAA gymnastics community is frustrated by the communication gaps. Someone commented, “Really seems like they don’t care at all.” Some frustrated comments read, “i tried to look through the post that ucla just shared but there’s literally nothing,” and, “i’m losing my mind.”
Some other displeased ones said, “Tragic,” and “It’s maddening.”
